Teen who allegedly stabbed Austin Metcalf claims self defense

A tragic incident occurred on April 2, 2025, in Frisco, Texas, where 17-year-old Austin Metcalf was fatally stabbed during a track and field event. According to witnesses, the incident began when Austin asked Karmelo Anthony, also 17, to leave his team’s tent. Karmelo, a student at Centennial High School, became angry and threatened Austin, saying, “Touch me and see what happens.” When Austin touched and pushed him, Karmelo pulled a knife from his backpack and stabbed him in the chest. Austin died in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter, before emergency services arrived.

Karmelo was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, with bail set at $1 million. His family launched an online support fund that has raised over $150,000, claiming Karmelo acted in self-defense. They describe him as an excellent student and a football team leader, suggesting that he was a victim of bullying. Meanwhile, Austin’s family is devastated by his loss and is demanding justice.

Witnesses say Austin and Karmelo did not know each other prior to the incident. They also note that pulling out a knife in such a situation is highly unusual and raises doubts about the self-defense claim. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities seeking more information from witnesses.
