Warning signs of a heart attack?

According to the World Health Organization, ischaemic heart disease is the leading cause of death globally, with 8.9 million deaths in 2019. Research shows that many people experience prodromal symptoms—early warning signs—days or months before a heart attack, but these are often overlooked.

Common symptoms include:

  1. Fatigue – Extreme tiredness due to reduced blood flow to the heart, often caused by narrowed arteries.
  2. Shortness of Breath – When the lungs don’t get enough oxygen, possibly signaling heart failure.
  3. Weakness – Sudden, unexplained weakness could be a sign to slow down and assess your health.
  4. Dizziness and Cold Sweats – These may be caused by poor circulation.
  5. Flu-like Symptoms – Many heart attack survivors reported flu-like symptoms days before the event.
  6. Chest Pressure – A growing sense of pressure or discomfort in the chest is a classic warning sign.
  7. Swollen Feet – Swelling in legs, ankles, or feet may result from heart failure and blood backing up in the body.
