Flight expert shares disturbing Air India crash theory

The tragic Air India flight A171 crashed on Thursday shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport, killing over 260 people, including passengers and residents on the ground. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was heading to Gatwick when it crashed into a residential area home to medical students and doctors.

The pilots issued a mayday call just after reaching about 190 meters altitude. Investigators have recovered one black box, but the cause of the crash remains unknown. Air India is working closely with Boeing and GE Aerospace, with experts on site.

Witnesses described flames and chaos, with some people jumping from buildings to escape. Aviation experts caution against early conclusions but have shared possible causes. Dr. Sonya Brown suggested the plane may have stalled due to a loss of thrust. Prof. John McDermid noted that accidents shortly after takeoff are rare and sudden, and said it’s unlikely the crash was caused by excess weight or fuel. Weather was reportedly good at the time.

This is the first major accident involving the 787, and experts emphasize how critical and dangerous takeoff is. The reasons behind this catastrophic event remain unclear. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. Rest in peace.
