Survivor Of 1998 Air Tragedy Says Lucky Seat Saved Him—Parallels Air India Miracle
Thai musician Ruangsak Loychusak, a survivor of a 1998 Thai Airways crash that killed 101 people, shared his shock upon learning that the only survivor of the recent Air India crash, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, had been sitting in the same seat number—11A.
In 1998, Ruangsak’s plane crashed into a swamp during landing. Now 47, he recalled struggling with trauma for years, saying he avoided flying and suffered flashbacks.
The Air India crash occurred shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, when the Boeing 787 Dreamliner bound for London slammed into a building. Of 244 people onboard, only Ramesh, 40, from Leicester, UK, survived. He told doctors the plane felt “stuck in the air” before splitting and crashing. He was ejected near an emergency exit and crawled away from the wreckage, injured but alive. His brother was among those presumed dead.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ramesh and others injured in the crash. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause.
