High school wrestler forfeits tournament after seeing opponent

In 2018, Brendan Johnston, a high school wrestler from Colorado, forfeited two state tournament matches against female competitors, citing his religious beliefs and personal discomfort with physically wrestling women.
As a Christian, he believed it was inappropriate and aggressive to wrestle girls, respecting them as women, and felt men and women are made differently. While his decision ended his high school wrestling career and resulted in a sixth-place finish, he explained that it didn’t mean he saw women as unequal.
