Italian actress Claudia Cardinale has aged with grace and conviction, famously saying that one cannot “stop time.” Rising to fame in the 1960s, she starred in over 100 films, with standout roles in classics like (1963), The Leopard (1963), and Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West (1968).

Cardinale admired Leone’s unique directing style, especially how he played music before filming scenes. Despite Hollywood’s interest, she avoided exclusive contracts, choosing to work at her own pace. This allowed her to keep control of her career and act alongside stars like Burt Lancaster, Rock Hudson, and John Wayne.

She made her Cannes debut in 1961 and returned in 1963 with two major films. While filming The Leopard and at the same time, she had to dye her long hair every two weeks to meet each director’s vision.
