Family with mysterious facial condition are becoming an internet sensation – now they’re inspiring millions worldwide
Since childhood, we’re taught not to judge others by their appearance. Sadly, many still do. The Manurung family from Indonesia is an inspiring example of embracing uniqueness. Four out of six siblings and their father have a rare facial condition that developed over time. Although doctors haven’t found a clear diagnosis, possibilities include Parry-Romberg Syndrome, Treacher Collins Syndrome, or Barber Say Syndrome—all rare genetic conditions.
Despite being stared at outside their village, they’re fully accepted in their community. The siblings, along with their parents, now use TikTok—with over 2.9 million followers—to share their lives, raise awareness, and earn a living.
“We see this as a gift from God,” they say. “We accept ourselves and want others to do the same.”
Their story is a powerful reminder: appearances don’t define us—character and love do.
