Dog was found tied to a rock and left to drown by her owner

In 2020, a woman attempted to drown a 10-year-old Belgian shepherd named Bella by tying her to a rock in the River Trent. Jane Harper, who was walking by, rescued Bella just in time, as the dog was struggling to stay above water. Bella was severely hypothermic and close to death when found, but after treatment, she survived and was taken to the RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Centre.
Authorities traced Bella’s microchip to her owner, Carlene Latham, who admitted to the abuse and was sentenced to a 12-month community order, fined, and banned from owning a dog for three years.
Now 11, Bella has fully recovered and found a loving new home with Maggie Mellish and Charlie Douglas, who were moved by her story. The couple, experienced with shepherd-type dogs, is committed to giving Bella the care she deserves in her golden years. Bella was even reunited with Jane, the woman who saved her life, marking an emotional and heartwarming chapter for the brave dog.
